从 词义和用法的多样性看，今天要说的 hitch /hɪtʃ/ 并不太像非高级词汇，倒更像是一个基础的口语词汇。

hitch 源自中古英语，原义与现在的基本义差不多：套/钩/栓住。

hitch the horse to the cart

把马拴在马车上

△拖车钩叫 trailer hitch

由此义引申为结婚，与另外一个说法很像：the the knot，即用婚姻之绳，把两人栓在一起，中文的”喜结连理”不也正是这个意思吗？

所以，get married 就有了另一种说法： get hitched。

2005年，威尔·史密斯有部言情片《全民情敌》，英文名就叫 Hitch (见下文)，在片中，男主是一个教男人如何俘获心上人芳心的恋爱顾问，hitch 既是男主的外号，又有”撮合”之意。

在生活中，hitch 还常指搭顺风车，有 hitch a ride (美) 和 hitch a lift (英) 两种说法，相当于动词 hitchhike。

We hitched a ride in a truck.

我们搭乘了一辆路过的货车。

与 around 搭配，则指搭车旅行：

We spent the whole summer hitching around Europe.

我们搭顺路车在欧洲游玩了一整个夏天。

hitch 还有(临时)故障，小问题的意思，相当于 obstacle 或 hindrance：

The opening ceremony went off without a hitch.

开幕式进展顺利 (没有出现任何问题)。

与 up 搭配，表示把衣服拉起或提起：

She hitched up her skirt and waded into the river.

她提起裙子，蹚进河里。

📝 hitch 的形近词

与 hitch 形近的单词是 hatch /hætʃ/。

作动词时，是”孵化”，如 hatch eggs (孵蛋)，也可以引申为策划：hatch a plot / plan (策划阴谋/计划)。

作名词的 hatch 指从一处通往另一处的入口，如飞机和船的舱门，阁楼的入口处，或厨房的取菜口 (serving hatch)。

hatch 也可以指掀背车，是 hatchback 的缩略式。
