I usually like straight dark red roses, and avoid purple in roses. But photos of Dark Desire suggested a deep red rose with sophisticated dark violet overtones. The first 2 or 3 days of the opening buds are indeed spectacular, starting out deep wine colored then turning deep red.
However, the third or fourth day, when the rose is fully open, it reveals a deep coral coloured rose veined and splotched with purple.

In my zone 5 Dark Desire is not a stable colour. It is very changeable and what’s more it is sometimes 2 or 3 colours at once, and sometimes there is purplish splotched over top of red.
The second photo suggests the variability and a bit of the splotchiness that some of them have.

It’s a north facing fence. That could account for the deeper tones. The one I have in full sun hasn’t had these purple, darker tones since earlier in the season when the sun wasn’t as intense.
