First Snow Falls in Yanyuan

Editor's Note

The first snow has settled over Peking University, covering Yanyuan in a soft and luminous white. Trees, rooftops, and familiar paths now hold a delicate layer of snow that brightens every corner of the campus.

初雪如约,北大如画❄

Around Weiming Lake, the Boya Pagoda rises with quiet elegance above the water, its reflection resting in a gentle winter glow that gives the entire scene a sense of calm and timelessness. The snow softens the contours of bridges, benches, and stone walkways, rounding each shape into gentle curves.

The air feels crisper and the usual sounds of campus life fall into a hushed rhythm. Even the ducks on the half-frozen lake seem to drift more slowly, moving through narrow channels of open water framed by ice. The campus carries a calm that feels both refreshing and introspective.

The historic buildings across campus reveal a special charm in the falling snow. In the Lee Shau Kee Humanities Buildings, traditional courtyards and wooden beams take on a new charm as snow settles into their details, creating scenes that feel almost painterly. Walking through these spaces feels like entering a familiar world quietly transformed by winter.

As the semester approaches its final stretch, students are immersed in papers, projects, and upcoming exams. Libraries and study rooms are filled with a steady focus. Yet the snow offers a gentle invitation to pause for a moment, step outside, and breathe in the cool air. It encourages everyone to slow their pace, lift their gaze, and appreciate the fleeting beauty that winter brings to the campus.

The first snow marks the official beginning of a new season in Yanyuan and leaves a sense of quiet inspiration across the university.

May this winter be filled with warmth and wonder!
