This rose can change its velvet color from dark red to almost black when there’s less sun. This is one of the roses that can be in the “black” rose category. This rose has good health and repeats well in my garden.

I think the only negative thing about it is that it has no scent , it makes up for that by lasting in the vase.

I am heat testing mine in a pulp pot near a very hot stone wall with southern exposure and it has been taking it quite well.

Gets some mildew, but that’s it. Still pretty impressive for this deadly heat zone test area!

This is my DH’s favourite rose – has performed well and in my garden, not overly plagued by disease as rumoured.

As far as the colour goes, it’s a very dark velvety red. Mine has full sun the whole day but I have heard that the colour can be darker if it has less sun.

My Black Baccara has survived it’s second winter very well and is shooting out quite a few new basal stems. I am in Zone 6a and I just mounded the soil a bit to protect the canes but there was hardly any die back but just to be sure I plant all my roses quite deep. I must admit that we didn’ have a very severe winter – temp were generally around 20-24F.
it’s a very steady consistent grower and bloomer for me.
